Tuition fees in Czech Republic are already among the lowest in Europe for English-taught degrees — but for students who qualify, scholarships can reduce costs further or eliminate them entirely. This post covers every scholarship source available to international students in Czech Republic, including which ones are realistically open to students from Singapore, Malaysia, and SE Asia.
One important note upfront: most Czech scholarships are awarded based on academic merit or specific country eligibility. Some are not available to students from Singapore or Malaysia because those countries are not on the qualifying list for government development-focused programmes. We flag this clearly for each option below so you can focus on what is actually relevant to you.
Czech Government Scholarships — Development Cooperation Programme
The Czech Government offers fully funded scholarships each year under its Foreign Development Cooperation Programme. These cover tuition, accommodation, a monthly stipend, and health insurance for the full duration of study at a Czech public university. For the 2026–27 academic year, the monthly stipend is CZK 12,000 for Bachelor's-level recipients and CZK 13,000 for Master's and PhD recipients.
Eligible countries for SE Asia include: Cambodia. Other eligible countries listed include Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Ukraine, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Zambia, Sri Lanka, Guatemala, and Jordan. Singapore and Malaysia are not currently on the eligible country list for this programme.
For students from Cambodia or other eligible countries, this is one of the strongest scholarship options available — fully funded and covering the entire degree. Applications are submitted through the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic. The deadline for the 2026–27 academic year was 30 September 2025.
Czech Government Intergovernmental Exchange Scholarships
Separately from the development cooperation programme, the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports also administers intergovernmental exchange scholarships through bilateral agreements with specific countries. These scholarships are for study or research stays of two to ten months at Czech public universities. Eligible countries include China, Japan, South Korea, India, Vietnam, Mongolia, and Taiwan, among others. Applications are not submitted directly to the Czech government — they go through the official education authority in your home country, which sets its own deadlines and selection process. If you are from an eligible country in SE Asia, contact your national ministry of education to confirm how to apply.
University Scholarships — The Most Accessible Option for Asian Students
For most students from Singapore, Malaysia, and SE Asia, university-level scholarships are the most accessible and realistic option. Here is what is available at the main Czech universities:
Charles University
Merit-based scholarships and tuition reductions offered through individual faculties — check each faculty's admissions page
Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics Tuition Fee Scholarships for high-achieving applicants to those specific programmes
Faculty of Social Sciences scholarships for Master's students
Václav Havel Bursary for students whose studies have been affected by repression or conflict in their home country
Czech Technical University (CTU)
CTU offers scholarship programmes for outstanding non-EU international students in engineering, IT, and science-related programmes. These cover a portion of tuition and in some cases contribute to living expenses. Awards are based on academic excellence.
Masaryk University
Accommodation grant available each semester to enrolled students who meet academic and residency criteria — helps offset housing costs
Faculty-specific scholarships for outstanding students, particularly at postgraduate level
Partial tuition fee reductions for high-achieving applicants in selected programmes
Brno University of Technology (BUT)
BUT offers accommodation scholarships and merit-based financial support for international students in engineering and science programmes. Awards are applied for through the university after enrolment.
Prague City University
Prague City University offers Social Engagement Scholarships based on demonstrated community involvement, as well as automatic renewal scholarships for students who maintain excellent grades. These can cover up to 50 percent of tuition fees for the duration of the degree — a meaningful reduction for an institution that charges approximately €4,400 per semester.
Erasmus+ Scholarships — For Exchange Semesters
Erasmus+ is the European Union's flagship education funding programme. If you are already enrolled at a university in Singapore or SE Asia that has a partnership agreement with a Czech university, you may be eligible to apply for an Erasmus+ grant to study a semester in Czech Republic. The grant covers travel costs and provides a monthly stipend to offset living expenses. The amount varies depending on the partnership and your home country. Contact the international office at your current institution to find out if an Erasmus+ agreement exists with a Czech partner.
South Moravian Centre for International Mobility
This non-profit organisation based in Brno offers scholarships specifically for non-EU students commencing Master's or PhD programmes at partner universities in Brno — primarily in technical and natural sciences. The scholarship covers accommodation in a university dormitory, local transport, on-campus food, and health insurance. Study must be in Czech, so this is primarily relevant for students who have completed or plan to complete a Czech language preparation course.
Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Scholarships
Erasmus Mundus is a separate and highly competitive programme that funds international students for full Master's degrees delivered jointly by multiple European universities. Some Erasmus Mundus programmes include Czech universities as partner institutions. Scholarships are fully funded and cover tuition, travel, and a living allowance. Acceptance rates are low, but the funding is exceptional for successful applicants. Programmes and eligibility vary year by year — search the official Erasmus Mundus catalogue for programmes that include Czech partner universities.
Accommodation Scholarship — Available to Most Enrolled Students
One scholarship that is easy to overlook is the Czech accommodation scholarship (ubytovací stipendium). Full-time students enrolled in their first degree at a Czech public university are entitled to apply for a contribution toward accommodation costs — approximately CZK 2,000 per academic quarter. It is not a large sum, but it is available to most enrolled international students and requires minimal effort to claim. Ask your university's student services office about eligibility and application process on arrival.
A Realistic View for Singapore and Malaysian Students
For students from Singapore and Malaysia, the most realistic scholarship routes are university merit awards, the Prague City University renewal scholarship, and the accommodation scholarship. The Czech government development programme is not open to your nationalities. Erasmus+ is possible if your home institution has a partnership. Intergovernmental exchange scholarships may be available through your national education ministry — check with the Ministry of Education in Singapore or Malaysia to confirm whether a bilateral agreement exists with Czech Republic.
